It was another good reading month! In May I read:
#27 Mr. Penumbra's 24 hour bookstore by Robin Sloan
This book was recommended by an acquaintance of Thad's (my husband) and I thought it sounded interesting. It was a good read but not the best fiction book I've read this year.
#28 Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World by Cal Newport
This was our year of creative habits book club selection. I like the ideas in this book but I found it a little long and dry.
#29 This Phenominal Life by Misha Blaise
I LOVED this one. It's beautifully illustrated with facts about how we humans are connected to nature, this planet, our solar system. RECOMMEND!
#30 Handbook by Kevin Budnik
This is a graphic memoir about anxiety and the author's eating disorder. I enjoyed it. (It's weird to say that about this kind of book but it's good, ya know?)
#31 Agnes Martin: Her Life and Art by Nancy Princenthal
#32 Agnes Martin and Me by Donal Woodman
These I read for my #deadartistsociety project. Agnes Martin: Her Life and Art is very thorough. The author gives a lot of extra info on other artists and things going on at the time. If you are really into learning about Agnes, especially beyond some of the clichés about her, then this book is for you. Agnes Martin and Me is a short memoir written by a friend of Agnes. It's an easy, enjoyable read though I think it's important to keep in mind it's specific to their relationship which was complicated.
I'm looking forward to some lighter summer reads!
